She looked at me and in her eyes I could see enormous concentration. It was as though an eternity of experiences was struggling to get through the barrier between her soul and mine, and the only thing stopping it was an inky black pupil. Everything that comprised her was contained behind that perfect round curtain.

"It's just..." she said hesitantly, the jagged words twisting and distorting as she struggled to get them out. "Sometimes the world can be so... so very confusing."
